Bill was called to the bar in 1982 and started in practice as a general practitioner with an office in Bloor West Village.  He joined McBride Wallace Laurent & Cord LLP as a senior partner in September, 1996.

 

Bill's practice now centres on civil litigation in numerous subject areas, including  commercial, real estate and estates related disputes, defending and advancing wrongful dismissal claims, mortgage defaults and other creditor/debtor matters, as well as real estate and estates work outside of litigation.

 

Bill has appeared at all levels of the civil courts in Ontario, with a number of reported cases including, more recently, Business Development Insurance Ltd. v. Caledon Mayfield Estates Inc. 2015 ONSC 1978, 2015 CarswellOnt 4290, 2015 ONSC 1978, 253 A.C.W.S. (3d) 489, 54 R.P.R. (5th) 300, a successful motion for summary judgment dismissing a claim for specific performance and damages of in excess of $1 million against his client and one as co-counsel in 1505986 Ont. Inc. v. Surma et al, 2010 ONSC 3907 (trial judgment); (2010 ONSC 6956 re: costs), which resulted in a successful trial judgment and recovery of damages, interest and costs well in excess of $1 million for his client.

Drawing on his breadth of trial and practice experience, Bill seeks to provide his clients with creative, cost-effective and efficient resolutions to their problems, often working together with other lawyers and professionals, both within and outside of the firm, to achieve an optimal solution.

 

Bill grew up in Toronto and received his Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of Toronto (Victoria) in 1977.  He graduated with his Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Calgary in 1980.  He has been active in the Etobicoke area with community basketball and baseball organizations as a coach and volunteer.
